Even as my body adjusted post-procedure, the results were miraculous. My MELD score—used to assess liver function—dropped so low that I no longer qualified for a transplant. Imagine that! As part of my post-procedure recovery, I was enrolled in in the clinical portion of the trial study. And I am ready, I now my 10% tithe to Melchizedek is in full swing, this financial favor is just another facet of God’s 90%.

Here’s the kicker: As my recovery progressed, my MELD score (Model for End-Stage Liver Disease) dropped so low that I was no longer eligible for the transplant list. Imagine that. The very system that was designed to categorize my illness had to re-calibrate itself around my healing.

The doctors were amazed. My numbers were better than expected, and the whispers of “How is this even possible?” filled the halls. I just smiled and thought, But God.

Perfect Attendance, Perfect Witness

While the stipend supported my physical journey, my spiritual growth skyrocketed in my intensive therapy at Recovery Resources. I showed up faithfully, with perfect attendance, for six months straight.

Each session became a space where I could pour into others as much as I was being poured into. It wasn’t just about proving my sobriety—it was about being a light to women who were seeking hope, healing, and a touch of the divine.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

The Numbers Said No, God Said Yes

By the end of my six-month journey, every box was checked:

• I completed my therapy without a single failed test.

• I attended every appointment, exceeding expectations.

• My liver functioned so well that even medical experts had to pause in awe.

It wasn’t just healing—it was a testimony that defied earthly logic.

A Glimpse Into What’s Next

In the next post, we’ll explore the moments where faith and science collided in the most unexpected ways. From being a patient to a pioneer, each step was a declaration that “no weapon formed against me shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).

Scripture Sizzles

• “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory” (Philippians 4:19)—a reminder that provision comes in many forms.

• “I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten” (Joel 2:25)—God’s promise to redeem what feels lost.

• “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7)—the anthem of this entire journey.

And honey, I smiled and said to myself, “Oh, I did that. Watch God work.”

But faith isn’t just a one-time shout; it’s a walk. And the road from “healed in heaven” to “manifested on Earth” wasn’t a stroll through the park. It was more like a trek up a mountain—high, steep, and full of surprises.

Breaking Ceilings, Shaking Systems

Let’s talk about barriers, shall we? To even qualify for a liver transplant, I had to meet certain criteria, starting with a MELD score high enough to make the waiting list. But get this—at the time, Cleveland Clinic had never performed a liver transplant on a woman of color.

Never?!

Yes, chile, you read that right. Never. I was walking into a system that wasn’t built for people like me. Yet, I knew that “no weapon formed against me shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17).

And if that wasn’t enough, I also had to prove I wasn’t an alcoholic because my medical record showed many of my anxiety attacks over the years had landed me in the ER on multiple occasions. Medical professionals believed these episodes to be alcohol-induced. However, test results revealed that my liver failure was due to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which had progressed to NASH.

What now? NASH—short for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis—is a more advanced form of NAFLD, marked by inflammation and liver damage in addition to fat buildup. The inflammation and damage can cause fibrosis (scarring) of the liver, and untreated NASH may lead to cirrhosis, in which the liver becomes permanently scarred.

Now, I’ve sipped a glass of wine or two in my day—okay, maybe one or two all at the same time…lol—but an alcoholic? Let’s be real. Binge drinking, while often joked about, is no laughing matter. It’s dangerous, toxic, and often rooted in deeper emotional pain or hormonal imbalances. But here’s a twist: NASH isn’t even tied to alcohol consumption as a risk factor.

Take a look at some of the common risk factors for NASH:

• Being overweight or obese

• Diabetes

• High cholesterol

• High triglycerides

• Poor diet

• Metabolic syndrome

• Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

• Sleep apnea

• Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)

Alcohol doesn’t even make the list! Meanwhile, I battled at least four of these risk factors at the same time. Yet, I was judged for something unrelated. But let me remind you, “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (1 Corinthians 14:33).

An alcoholic? Not this Sassy Saint! Still, proving my truth wasn’t about what I said; it was about what I could show.

Recovery, But Make It Bold

Here’s the thing: AA is a powerful program, but their language of recovery didn’t vibe with my spirit. Words matter, y’all. “The power of life and death is in the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21), and I couldn’t speak anything over myself that didn’t align with the truth I knew.

So, I found an alternative: Recovery Resources. Let me tell you, God must’ve had my file stamped with “Favor” because I almost didn’t qualify for their intensive class. I didn’t have substance abuse issues, but the program’s instructor saw something deeper—a soul carrying trauma.

And just like that, I was placed in the women’s acute trauma recovery class. Talk about divine placement!

Healing the Past, Proving the Present

That class was more than a checkmark for the doctors—it was a healing ground for my spirit. In those sessions, I learned that recovery isn’t just about sobriety; it’s about addressing the wounds we often ignore. I realized that God was restoring more than my liver; He was restoring me.

“For He restores my soul” (Psalm 23:3) became my anthem as I uncovered layers of myself that had been buried under years of struggle.

A Hint of What’s Next: Pioneering with Purpose

Now, I’ll leave you with this: The fight wasn’t over. Each step brought new revelations, challenges, and victories. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: “God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.”

• “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) carried me when I felt weak.

• “For the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you” (Deuteronomy 20:4) reminded me that I wasn’t battling alone.

• And “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31) was my promise for the journey ahead.

Let me be clear: I never wavered. Not once. I knew God’s Word could not return void. I knew He had plans for me—plans to prosper me and not harm me, plans to give me hope and a future. I didn’t need faith in that moment because I had knowing. And if I didn’t have that knowing, God quickly reminded me.

"Remember who you are in Christ."

And just like that, scriptures began flooding my spirit like a divine playlist.

"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature."
"No weapon formed against you shall prosper."
"Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."

I wasn’t in a fight for my life; I was in a test of my power.

The Divine Reminder: Remember Who You Are

When God spoke to me, it wasn’t a whisper—it was an unmistakable declaration.

"Why do you cry when you know what to do?" God asked me.
"You’ve been a church girl all your life, and I have called you to be the head and not the tail. You already know the outcome, so walk in it. Give Me your 10%, and I will handle the remaining 90%."

I laughed. It wasn’t fear; it was the audacity of the enemy to think he could shake me. I didn’t know if it was Black Baby Jesus or White Baby Jesus speaking, but I said, “Uh-uh! Jesus, DO NOT tell me that!”

God wasn’t asking for my money. He wasn’t asking for a single thing outside of what I already had—faith in action. He reminded me of His promises:

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1, KJV)
"Through faith, the ancestors obtained a good report." (Hebrews 11:2, paraphrased)

And with that, I remembered my identity. I wasn’t fighting for healing; I was walking in it.

When God Sent Science and Technology

God didn’t stop at reminding me who I was. He had a plan in motion. That’s when Dr. Adhami walked into my hospital room. He was more than a doctor—he was a divine assignment.

“I have a program,” he told me. “It’s a trial study, and I believe it can work for you. But there are 26 criteria you need to meet before you can enroll.”

One of those criteria? My bilirubin level had to be exactly 16.

Let me tell you something about how my God works. He doesn’t deal in probabilities; He deals in precision. The lab techs drew my blood, and we waited. Dr. Adhami sat beside me as the results came back:

Bilirubin @ 16.

Dr. Adhami stood up, smiled, and said, “Let’s roll her out to the ICU and prep her for the procedure.”

When You Know Who You Are, Miracles Happen

I didn’t walk into that hospital wondering if I’d make it out alive. I walked in knowing God’s promise was greater than the diagnosis. It wasn’t human effort that saved me; it was God using science, technology, and my surrender.

This is only the beginning of the story. There’s so much more to tell. But if there’s one thing I want you to take from this, it’s this:

When you remember who you are in Christ, you don’t have to wonder about the outcome. You don’t fight for victory—you fight from victory. And that, my friends, is where the miracles live.
